Oil under intake

Hey guys,

I bought my 2005 535d last week. I was having temperature issues, so I replaced the main and EGR thermostats today and the temperature is fixed!

Next I had to replace the 4th glow plug, so I removed the intake. Unfortunately, there is a lot of oil everywhere under the intake. Also, the inside of the intake is also very dirty. As well as still having swirl flaps...

Any ideas what this leak could be? Looks like a lot is around the middle pipe under the intake (2nd picture), but hard to know...

Here are some pictures:

Any ideas? Perhaps a common problem? I haven't been able to find much.

Dankje,
Robert

I think the flaps axes are leaking. Replace the flaps with blindin plates and it is over. Check your glow spark relais. When it is really dirty you could better replace it

I had the same with my car. It's that I already was replacing my swirlflaps, so my leaking problem should be over.
I suggest you also replace the rubber parts that seal the blind plates and intake.
Good luck, and enjoy your time when replacing these parts (I know I did) :duimen:

I also had the same issue. During the purchase inspection they told me there was some oil around the intake but it should be fixed when the swirl flaps are removed and the blanking plates are placed.

And it did :duim:

Just finished replacing everything today. Cleaned the intake, Installed swirl flap blanks, all new gaskets and replaced a dodgy glow plug. The car didn't go up in flames when I started it, so hopefully everything is OK! :D
